50 Shades of Grey Movie Scheduled for 2015

Dakota-JohnsonAlthough the “50 Shades of Grey” book, a 2011 erotic romance novel written by E.L. James, received less-than-stellar reviews, it quickly became a best-seller and now, it is being turned into a box office movie. The released book is the first published of the Fifty Shades trilogy that follows deepening relationships of a college graduate and young businessman.

Most reviews focus on poor literary quality although the book edition won “Book of the Year” and “Popular Fiction” in the UK National Book Awards, as well as E.L. James being named “Publishing Person of the Year” by Publishers Weekly. Some critics are concerned the film may fail to meet expectations but considering the first book was translated into 52 languages and sold more than 100 million copies around the world, others believe it will be a huge success.

The “50 Shades of Grey” movie is being developed by Universal Pictures in conjunction with Focus Features and is currently scheduled to be released February 13, 2015.

It took movie executives months to identify the right actor to play 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey but after careful consideration, the role was given to Jamie Dornan. The lead female role of college student Antasia Steele will be played by Dakota Johnson.

Stars cast in the ”50 Shades of Grey” movie are Jennifer Ehle (Carla), Luke Grimes (Elliot), Victor Rasuk (Jose), Elioise Mumford (Kate), Max Martini (Jason Taylor), and Rita Ora (Mia Grey). Other cast members include Marcia Gay Harden, and Dylan Neal, among others.

The film is being written by Kelly Marcel, Mark Bomback, and Patrick Marber, and Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. According to insiders, the film will follow much of the first book’s storyline although there could be slight variations. If all goes according to plan, it can be expected for two additional films to be created in line with the book trilogy.

However, based on the erotic nature, perceived demographic of the fan base, and being dubbed “mommy porn” by readers, chances are good the “50 Shades of Grey” movie will have a strict adult rating for moviegoers.
