Honey Boo Boo Officially Cancelled Amid Scandal

honey.boo.booThe television show, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” has officially been cancelled” as reports of June Shannon, aka Mama June, surfaced that she has a dating relationship with a convicted child molester.

Immediately after the news broke of the show being cancelled, Shannon released a statement in the form of a video on her daughter’ Alana’s Facebook page claiming she is not dating sex offender Mark McDaniel but reportedly, the damage has already been done.

According to reports, 50-something year old McDaniel was convicted in May 2004 of aggravated child molestation and as a result, is a registered sex offender. However, after being accused of being involved with him, Shannon stated that she had once dated him but dumped him more than 10 years ago.

In the report about McDaniel are details how the molestation involved a relative of Shannon’s but she added in the video that she would never do anything that would put her children in danger. Although she also insists the photo of the two of them together is not authentic, the show’s cancellation is.

Not only has TLC cancelled “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” but all activities surrounding the series have been halted, effective immediately. The network’s representative went on to say that the only priority is the health and welfare of the amazing children on the show and because they are faithfully committed to their comfort and well-being, the decision of cancellation was made.

Just last month, Shannon and her husband, Mike Thompson, aka “Sugar Bear” split. While the couple was never legally married, they exchanged personal vows earlier this year with several family members in attendance.

Obviously, Shannon and the rest of the clan are disappointed in the show’s cancellation but she thanked all of the fans for their support and said the family was grateful for them being a part of the show that firs debuted in August 2012.

Initially, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” focused on Alana aka Honey Boo Boo, who is the couple’s youngest daughter. After gaining fame as a child pageant winner on “Toddlers & Tiaras”, Alana’s antics made for good television. However, ratings for the show had begun to decline in recent seasons, adding to the decision of taking the show off the air.
